Bellae Illustrations: Marchesa Bridal Spring 2017 Inspiration

I am so loving Marchesa Bridal Spring Fashion collection this year. The dresses are so fairy-like with floral detailing as 3-D appliqués on gowns with dipping décolletage or lace embroidery. How can I not love them?

And my favorite dress out of this collection:

Trying out Boomerang video for the first time while adding glitters to the dress:

Have you seen Ralph & Russo Autumn Winter 2016-2017 Coulture Dresses Collection?

They are absolutely stunning with gowns which has so many lovely detailings like the floral designs that cascade down the gowns, bold prints and soft tulle sheaths which create the romantic feel! And one dress caught my eye enough to spark inspiration into my head and I couldn’t help but draw the gown instead.

Runway Look 50

I am so into these ruffles and their crystals glass bead embroidery!

Arabella Sketch: Dancing in Snow Globe

I saw her dancing in the snow in my mind, and I find the scene so beautiful that I decided to sketch it out. And no, I am not nuts. I was just able to imagine things in my head, and sometimes, I really thank God for giving me this gift to be able to express my thoughts on paper. But sometimes, it is hard to transfer all my imagination to paper and it can be kind of frustrating to describe in words when I am a kind of person who simply cannot explain or tell story well verbally.

Since I have been drawing her for most of my drawings, I decided to give her a name: Arabella 🙂

Arabella: Latin name which Derived from ‘orabilis’ meaning yielding to prayer. Also means beautiful, loving and graceful.

Oh yes. She is the ballerina figurine that I have been drawing in most of my illustrations. I always feel kind of happier sketching her out, imagine her dancing on paper. Such imagination!

Glimpse of my work in progress:

Sketched using Faber-Castell Singapore white colour pencil and Dr. Ph. Martin’s pen white ink with Nikko G dip pen.

And the final artwork after digitally enhanced using Photoshop:

Arabella dancing in the snow globe

Winding the key up
She rises and lift her arms
Such delicate features
Her feathery dress feels like snow
With stars sparkles in her hair
As she dances to the music

She twirls and turns
As she works her magic
Such graceful and beautiful moves
As memories start flowing out
Bringing back to good times
As she dances to the music

Her tune starting to fade
She spins a few more turns
With a smile she give a curtsey
And wait until the time is right
So that she can work her magic
To bring good memories again

TGIF. everyone! ❤

Bellae Illustrations: Cinderella Illuminating Gown

There has been quite a huge commotion over Met Gala 2016 event where Claire Danes wowed everyone with her whimsical, jaw dropping Zac Posen ball gown which actually glow in the dark!

I also love the shade of blue when it wasn’t glowing as well. How I wish that is my wedding gown, though I don’t think I will be able to withstand the thirty battery packs under my skirt 😉

But this dress got me inspired and I decided to paint it and for the first time in my life, I also decided to try doing a small animation, all using my paints, photoshop and a mouse. Yes, I swear I am using a mouse which it was so painfully slow to begin with because I have to keep undoing the unstable mouse trails as I edit and brushed up the dress on photoshop. I should really get myself a tablet soon which I have been eyeing on Wacom. Has anyone has any other recommendation beside Wacom?

Here’s a video of my work in progress, painting the dress using Finetec Watercolors and Dr PH Martins Pen White Ink (hover over to play the video):

I really salute all animators out there. It wasn’t easy making the animation, having to create many still images/layers as well as deciding the timing in between frames.

And I am starting to miss crafting. I have so many ideas on my explosion boxes but with so many things happening in my life right now, it will be a miracle squeezing some craft time in!

Acrylic painting: The secret beanstalk

I was actually sitting down at my office one day, when I suddenly envisioned a giant beanstalk leading up to the sky. It has been making me fidgeting the whole time with this vision in my head, and my hands itched to hold a brush to paint the picture down.

This got me restless for a few days as I busy myself at work, as I bustled around the research lab (yes, that’s my real full time job!) and doing data analysis, I just couldn’t stop thinking about it. At the same time, I stalled having to paint it because I never paint fantasy, and wasn’t sure how I should go about it.

Then one night, I decided to sit down and paint it out on the cheap fibreboard that I got from Daiso. First time trying out the surface and I don’t really like one bit!

Took me 2 hours just to paint clouds as I was trying to get used to the fiberboard.

And I took a break away from the painting before continuing the next night.  And it’s done!

The Secret Beanstalk – Acrylic on fiberboard

A question lingered in my mind:

“What will you expect to see when you climb up that beanstalk?”

An interesting thought 🙂

Colour Inspiration: Frosty Christmas

My Colour Inspiration is back with another lovely colour pattern and palatte, so suitable for whimsical Christmas related theme!  I love whimsical and christmas together so why not I come up with the colours and share with you guys?

Here is it:

Frosty Christmas Colour Inspiration

White, Purple, Sky Blue, Royal Blue

Aren’t those colours are lovely? I just love the pattern which I have created using COLORSlovers, so quaint! I am a big sucker for anything vintage and whimsical!

The best part about being a designer and crafter is that you can conjure up something you love that you can never find elsewhere.  – Esther Peh

Aye Aye, that is my own quote which I always tell my friends the reason why I love being an artist / crafter and I am very proud to be one!

And here’s my take for the colours:

Frosty Christmas Easel Card

When close

I decided to make easel card because they are a great way to display christmas card on desks in office or at home! A lovely card which can brighten up your day whenever you look at it ❤

I use Fairytale theme Kraiserkraft paper for the base and distressed the edged of the paper using Distress Ink (Faded Jeans) and handstitched the border of the card as well.

Close up look:

Closer look at the boy

The boy (Magnolia) was stamped and colored using Copic Markers and colour pencils before using gloassy accent on his hat and glitters on the whites of his hat and gloves.

I used Spellbinder die cut for the border.I distressed the edge with Faded Jeans Distress ink and added Diamond Sticklers to create the glitter look. I use Die-Namite die cut for the bare branches, and glittered it as well. Martha Stewart lace border punch was used to create the border below the picture. Paper dolly was also used as well! You do notice that there are also many layers here and there, this help to create a lovely 3D look so that it looks really appealing. So brainstorming the colours before making it is very important. Be sure to come up with a palatte and see if the colours works really well with one another instead of clashing terribly.

Closer look at the edge of the card

Layer, Layer and Layer!

Notice all the layerings? If you count, there is about 7 layers. I love it! ❤

Closer look

A closer look at the flower. I bought the flower from a local craft store, and glitter the center toward the end with Sticklers before adding the blue rhinestone.

This is the picture took during the work in progress stage for creating the tag for the “Marry Christmas” phrase:

Creating the sentiment

I used Maya Road chipboard and add some blue glitter before using Crackle Accents to give a cracked glass look and placed over the christmas sentiment. Love this look! ❤

❤ ❤ ❤

That’s about it!
